Step1 Measuring and Ordering
With a measuring tape, measure in metres your planned area and then use the formula L x W = m2 to work out how many metres you need. Schedule your order delivery of turf after prepatory work is completed and you are ready to install. Prompt installation on the day of delivery is crutial to a strong beginning for your lawn.
*Orders to be in by Monday's.
Step2 Soil Preparation
|For best results, rotary hoe to a depth of 20mms. If you have a clay base soil add 100mms of sandy loam soil. Rake out level. Keep topsoil 1 - 2cm below edging or driveway, this will make your turf flush when it is installed.|
Step3 Turf Installation
Install your lawn immediately upon delivery. Begin watering lawn within 30 minutes of installation. Turf is a living plant that requires ground contact & moisture to survive. Begin installing turf along the longest line, such as a driveway or sidewalk. Butt & push edges & ends against each other tightly, without stretching. Avoid gaps or overlaps. Stagger the joins in each row in a brick-like fashion using a large sharp knife to trim corners etc.Avoid leaving small strips at outer edges as they will not retain moisture. On slopes, place the turf pieces across the slope.
Each site will have different watering requirements depending on slope, soil, shade, wind exposure, time of the year & climatic conditions. Watering the day of installation is critical. Water should penetrate turf & sub soil until water has penetrated 75-100mm into subsoil. To measure water penetration, pull back a corner of turf to make sure the underneath soil is very wet. For another test, push a screwdriver into the soil, the screwdriver should penetrate at least 50-100mm into the soil. If not, add more water. Look for stress signs in your lawn.If the grass leaves are wilting, curling up or there appears to be dull or dry patches, a good watering is usually needed. Be certain that your new lawn has enough moisture to survive hot, dry or windy periods.
